The Dunes was located at the point intersection where the road to Ocean City and Somers Point converged with Longport Blvd. in Egg Harbor Township, and had 24 hour liquor licenses at the time, while bars in Somers Point closed at 3 am, with music over at 2am.
Built by John McCann, Sr. and Dick McLain, the motto was "Dunes Til' Dawn'
It was also the scene of the murder of Harry Anglemeyer - the Copper Kettle Fudge King.
Update on Tito Mambo. Tito died in California at the age of 53. This info from his son whom has done extensive digging, and came up with Tito's death certificate.

ReplyDeleteAt work on a new novel set down the shore in 1976; looking for a background source for details about The Dunes. Any help is appreciated. No $$ in it but I've been known to name a character (with permission) after folks who've helped me get the descriptions straight. Visit: www.bandagemanpress.com for contact details. Thanks!
